It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
