Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was convicted of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and given more than over two decades in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could facilitate a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said data from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his escape.

Context of Sentencing
